Biography
Wafa Aidi joined the Regional Integration and Trade Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa on July 2016. She was granted the grade of Doctor in Economics from both University of Tunis and Toulon. She also has a master in forecasting business cycles and financial markets from the Higher Institute of Management (Tunis). Prior joigning UNECA, Wafa has been a researcher with the Higher Institute of Management of Tunis. She was also visiting scholar with the Graduate Institute of Geneva, Center for Trade and Economic Integration. She has developed solid research abilities in empirical analysis and she is keen on statistical data processing and gained hands-on experience in applied econometrics. Her current research focuses on the socio-economic implications of the COVID-19 on African countries, Africa Regional Integration Index, the drivers of intra-African investment, and complementarity between finance and trade integration and has been recognized in international peer-reviewed journals. Wafa has been appointed within ECA team in charge of macro modeling since 2018 and benefited from training granted by the IMF in the areas of climate change, demographic dividend, fiscal policy and economic forecasting as well on CGE modelling from GTAP Purdue University. She is also coordinating UNECA contribution to the FSDR 2021 in collaboration with the Inter-Agency Task Force on Financing for Development.
