Biography
Gideon Rutaremwa is a Population Affairs Officer in the Social Policy Section at the Gender, Poverty & Social Policy Division. His areas of expertise include demography, social sciences and social statistics. Prior to joining ECA, he worked as an Associate Professor of Population Studies for the Makerere University, Uganda, where he taught several subjects relating to demography. Recent publications discuss topics such as determinants of age at first marriage ; contraceptive use; Fertility transition; Ageing issues; sexual and reproductive health and HIV; Migration and remittances and infants and child mortality . He is associated with the International Union for Scientific Study of Population, the Population Association of America (PAA), the Union for African Population Studies (UAPS) and the International Statistics Institute (ISI). Mr. Rutaremwa holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, United States.
