Biography
Dr. Kagwanja is the Chief of the Agribusiness Enabling Environment Section (ABEES) and the Coordinator for the African Land Policy Center (ALPC), formerly, LPI Secretariat. She is a Kenyan national and holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics (International Trade and Development), University of Missouri-Columbia (USA). She has 25 years experience in African development, agricultural and land policy as well as environment and climate change, with positions at the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) and International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI). Dr. Kagwanja’s achievements include strategic leadership e.g. in the establishment of the LPI/ALPC, development of knowledge products including publications, guidelines and frameworks; advocacy to enhance political and public will in agriculture, land governance, environment and climate change, with key resulting decisions adopted by AU Member States to improve agriculture and land policies. Her contributions also include human resource and financial management, building partnerships and mobilizing resources in support of agriculture and land governance Dr. Kagwanja’s recent publications include topics on agriculture and land policy, including on land-based investments in Africa, accountability gaps in land governance in Africa, and continental CAADP Agenda, among many others. She is associated with both the African and the American Agricultural Economics Association.
