Biography
Medhat El-Helepi is an Economic Affairs Officer at the Agriculture & Business Enabling Environment Section of the Private Sector Development & Finance Division. His areas of expertise include macroeconomics and agricultural economics. Prior to joining ECA, he worked as a Senior Economist and Coordinator for the African Union Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) in Kenya and as an Assistant Professor for Cairo University, Egypt, where he taught marketing, microeconomics, macroeconomics and agribusiness. He is associated with the African and Egyptian Association for Agricultural Economists. Recent publications address topics such as macroeconomic policy and sustainable agriculture for structural transformation and regional overview of food security and nutrition in Africa. Mr. El-Helepi holds a Ph.D. in macroeconomics from the Cairo University, Egypt, and a Master in environmental economics from McGill University, Canada.
